The Rough Castle Christmas Experience
We’re back this year for this Christmas in partnership with the iconic Falkirk Wheel.
Step into a world of enchantment this festive season with our Christmas Woodland Experience at the iconic Falkirk Wheel. A festive delight for families and friends of all ages, from children to grandparents, this event promises the magic of Christmas.
🎅 A Festive Playground for All Ages
Bring the whole family along to enjoy an evening filled with laughter and excitement. Funfair attractions that will delight the kids, to delectable seasonal treats that will satisfy the foodies among us, there’s something for everyone to relish.
🌲 Immerse Yourself in Nature’s Winter Magic
Embark on a captivating 1.4km woodland trail that winds through the picturesque landscape, adorned with twinkling lights and breathtaking decorations. The crisp air, the rustling leaves underfoot, and the scent of Christmas magic will transport you to a winter wonderland like no other.
🎄 Santa’s Indoor Enchanted Grotto
Get ready to meet the one and only Santa Claus in his cozy indoor grotto. Share your wish list and capture precious moments with a keepsake photo. Santa’s warm welcome and hearty laughter will create memories to cherish for years to come. Each child will receive their very own Nice certificate from Santa…if they’ve made the to the nice list!
🚂 All Aboard the Polar Express Tractor Ride
Hop onto the Polar Express tractor ride, a magical journey through the woods that’s sure to ignite the imagination of both young and old. Feel the Christmas spirit as you ride through the forest, taking in the dazzling lights and festive cheer.
🔥 Toasty Marshmallows and More
Indulge in the Christmas pleasure of toasting marshmallows over an open fire with our woodland Elf’s. The crackling flames, the gooey marshmallows, and the joy of sharing stories make for a truly heartwarming experience.

A Christmas Miracle at Rough Castle – 2021
Our Christmas event ‘A Christmas Miracle at Rough Castle’ celebrated the spirit of Christmas with a 1.4km illumination trail, featured Reindeer from the North Pole and culminated in seeing Santa and his Elves.
We teamed up with M&D’s who provided some Christmas entertainment through their
funfair and Big Feed, award winning street food vendors from Glasgow.
A fun and interactive sound and light adventure which brought over 13,000 people together from all over Scotland to our historic woodland venue and see Santa and his festive friends.
Legion
Our flagship event ‘Legion’ celebrated the heritage of our site and saw us voted as Regional Finalist at the Scottish Thistle Awards.
A sound and light show like no other taking you back in time, to when the Ancient Romans ruled over their most Northern British Frontier- The Antonine Wall.
A Roman General appoints YOU! To go beyond the wall! Search the woods! Find the Picts! See the magic!
A fun and interactive sound and light adventure that immersed our visitors in the history of the site and transported them back in time.
Did you know:
Brought over 5000 visitors to our site
We contracted 9 local businesses
Worked with 6 schools and community groups
The event created over 30 jobs
Employed 20 actors
We employed 2 social enterprises
We gave work experience and employment to 6 students from the local colleges
We commissioned a projection mapping team of 2
We commissioned a local artist
We commissioned 5 aerial acrobats
Our event included over 2000 lights and 3200 metres of cable.

The Rough Castle Hogmanay Experience
For one night only we’re bringing the woods to life with an open air Hogmanay event to remember. From 7pm join Central FM breakfast show duo Liam & Shaz as they take to the stage and welcome you all to our unique woodland setting.
To set the scene and evoke your Scottish roots Camelon and district Pipe band will open the show with a traditional pipe band performance.
Following on we welcome Jim Jam ceilidh band, a quartet hailing from Glasgow will put you through your dancing steps. Make sure you have your wellies and kilts at the ready, you know your Gay from your Gordons and remember how to Strip the Willow.
Scotland’s multi award winning musicians; Skerryvore join us for their last live Scottish performance of the year right here in Falkirk! Tracks such as You and I or Take my Hand live from Rough Castle promise a spine-tingling show.
A Hogmanay celebration wouldn’t be quite complete without a countdown to our Firework display so back to the stage for Liam & Shaz to count us down to midnight and then over to Skerryvore to close the show.
Kilts encouraged! We’re bringing the Hogmanay tradition back this year so crack on with the cleaning and get that fireplace swept, then get ready to celebrate as we dance the night away and bring in the New Year with a night to remember so BOOK your tickets now as our numbers are strictly limited!
