Rough Castle, an ancient Roman Fortress and one of the most northerly outposts of Roman Britain. Built during the reign of Antoninus Pius – the Pious Emperor, who initiated construction of The Antonine Wall in 142AD.
The Antonine Wall can be viewed running throughout our site, adjacant to the Woodlands. Predominantly made of Peat & Turf, the viewing of the remains is best done at Rough Castle Fort around a 20 minute walk, signposted from the Falkirk Wheel where you will find plenty of parking alternatively, hire one of our Segways to take you there.
